Switzerland’s largest charging network operator gains unprecedented control, flexibility, and strategic roaming capabilities through a major platform switch
We’re excited to announce that Swisscharge, Switzerland’s largest charging network operator, has completed a strategic migration of 20,000 charge points to AMPECO’s platform. This milestone unlocks unprecedented control, flexibility, and strategic roaming capabilities for Swisscharge, positioning the company to scale its operations and accelerate innovation in Switzerland’s rapidly growing EV charging market.
The transition positions Switzerland’s largest network operator, serving 200,000 registered drivers with access to hundred-thousands charging points across Europe, to scale its complex multi-operator business model while maintaining market leadership.
Swisscharge’s complex, multi-operator business, serving as a CPO, multi-brand eMSP, and platform reseller to partners, required a single platform capable of supporting its 12 diverse use cases spanning public charging, fleet management, workplace, and residential charging.
Selecting a Partner for Growth, Not Just a Platform
After evaluating multiple charging management platforms, Swisscharge selected AMPECO based on its technical flexibility, partnership approach, and ability to support complex business models, including multi-branding requirements for their largest customers. A cornerstone of the migration was transitioning from managed roaming to direct roaming, providing unprecedented flexibility in working with roaming partners, cost optimization, full transparency into roaming margins, and the ability to build strategic partnerships. This approach benefits EV drivers through more competitive pricing, while supporting the sustainable growth of Swisscharge.
Migration Excellence: Navigating Complexity At Scale
The complexity of the projects required careful planning and thorough analysis of the business flows at Swisscharge. All businesses have accumulated legacy use cases and exceptions over the years. Being on the market for more than 10 years, Swisscharge was experiencing similar challenges. The migration was also a perfect opportunity to resolve those issues and improve operational efficiency, thereby increasing the project’s ROI.
Swisscharge management fully understood the project’s importance and ensured the necessary level of commitment from key team members. They also selected The Rechargers, a leading consultancy in the EV charging domain, for their deep expertise in supporting migrations. The Rechargers provided strategic advice and additional resources to handle the increased workload during the migration.
Swisscharge served as the central communication bridge throughout the process, gathering and implementing requirements from all operators, aligning internal support teams, and managing communications with their EV driver base. Regular steering committees ensured the executive team approved the process optimizations and data transformations needed for the migration in a timely manner. The early driver awareness campaigns set clear expectations for the transition and helped communicate the benefits to their B2B and B2C customers.
The Rechargers served as the central orchestrator throughout the migration, managing all stakeholders and workflows between Swisscharge, AMPECO, and third parties. Their functional analysts furthermore handled data cleanup and business process mapping, restructuring legacy data to ensure a clean go-live that would immediately unlock AMPECO’s full platform potential.
AMPECO’s dedicated migration team brought proven methodologies developed through transitioning 120,000 charge points across dozens of global markets. This experience proved essential for mapping Swisscharge’s unique business structure to AMPECO’s data model, defining business-process translations, and planning the technical cutover. Dedicated specialists worked closely with the operational teams of Swisscharge and The Rechargers on topics such as hardware, payment processors, roaming, ensuring any blockers are identified and resolved as soon as possible.
“AMPECO’s commitment to stick to timelines was crucial. Working with an account manager who closely manages the project on AMPECO’s side made all the difference. AMPECO’s strong data model covers the full spectrum of EV charging use cases. We could map every scenario Swisscharge needed, and their proxy solution allowed us to execute the cutover seamlessly.“
Jeroen Gernay, Founder, The Rechargers
Through several dry runs and iterative test imports, the joint migration team achieved consistent data mapping between the legacy and new platforms, ensuring business continuity and minimal operational and financial disruptions.
The result: a smooth rollout. On the night of September 30th, 2025, approximately 20,000 charge points switched to using AMPECO’s OCPP proxy within a few hours. EV drivers found their accounts, balances, and RFID tags transferred. Swisscharge experienced no drop in operational metrics. In fact, they achieved a 20% year-over-year increase in sessions and active drivers in 2025 – growth that continued uninterrupted after the migration.
Beyond the Migration: Operational Efficiency, Customer-Centricity, and Strategic Growth
The platform transition has delivered immediate operational benefits. Cleaning up legacy use cases has led to more streamlined business operations. New capabilities enable Swisscharge to better meet its customers’ requirements. The extensive operational capabilities, including anomaly detection and automated issue resolution, provide a clearer view of the network, simplifying maintenance and reducing waste. The extensive flexibility of the AMPECO platform when it comes to extending its capabilities beyond API data integrations provides a stable base for further developing its offerings.
Beyond technical capabilities, the migration has enabled even more customer-centricity at Swisscharge. The company established a dedicated data team and implemented formal processes to capture customer feedback and incorporate it into the product roadmap, reinforcing a culture of continuous improvement and innovation-driven growth.
With AMPECO’s platform as its foundation, Swisscharge is advancing strategic initiatives, including smart charging capabilities, enhanced fleet management solutions, auto-charge functionality, and loyalty programs to increase utilization. The partnership positions Swisscharge to expand its partner network, scale operations efficiently, and maintain its leading position as Switzerland’s EV charging market continues to evolve rapidly.
