In the vast and pristine landscape of Alaska, a new wave of sustainability is gaining momentum as electric vehicles (EVs) take center stage. Chugach performs biannual tallies of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles registered in Alaska. The count of registered EVs both in Alaska and specifically within the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) has shown a consistent increase over the past few years.

With an eye toward reducing emissions and embracing clean transportation solutions, Chugach Electric Association has introduced a series of innovative EV charging incentives. In this article, we’ll delve into these incentives, shedding light on how Chugach is paving the way for a greener future in the Last Frontier.

1. Boosting EV Infrastructure: The Commercial Member Hosting Credit

Chugach’s commitment to expanding the EV charging infrastructure is evident through its Commercial Member Hosting Credit program. Under this initiative, commercial members who are willing to host EV charging facilities are offered a $500 credit. The program presents a win-win scenario: members can contribute to the growth of Alaska’s EV network while benefiting from financial support.

To be eligible for the credit, members must take on the responsibility of installing, owning, making available, and paying the bills for Level 2 EV charging facilities. These charging stations can serve various purposes, from public use to specific commercial applications like tenant or customer parking. The program’s inclusivity covers commercial, workplace, fleet, and public charging needs, reflecting Chugach’s dedication to accommodating a diverse range of electric vehicle users.

2. Empowering the Workplace: Charging Facilities for Employee Needs

Recognizing the significance of workplace charging facilities, Chugach introduces another incentive targeting businesses with 25 employees or more. The Workplace EV Charging Facilities program offers cost-sharing opportunities for commercial members willing to host charging facilities catering to employee needs. Beyond employee charging, these facilities can also serve customers and the public, enhancing the accessibility of EV charging options.

To qualify, members must agree to install, own, and maintain Level 2 EV charging facilities for a minimum of 36 months after installation. This program underscores Chugach’s emphasis on long-term sustainability and its willingness to support businesses in adopting EV-friendly workplace environments.

3. Hospitality and EVs: Hotel Charging Facilities

For Alaska’s thriving hospitality industry, Chugach presents a unique opportunity to embrace sustainable practices while attracting eco-conscious travelers. The Hotel EV Charging Facilities program offers reimbursement of up to $2,500 for hotels that choose to install universal EV charging stations for guests. These charging facilities not only cater to the needs of EV travelers but also reflect the host hotel’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Hosts participating in this program are expected to provide feedback on the usage and effectiveness of the EV charging facility, creating a valuable feedback loop that helps Chugach refine and enhance its EV charging initiatives.

4. Fuelling Green Fleets: EV Chargers for Commercial Vehicles

In a bid to transform commercial fleets into green forces, Chugach offers an EV charging incentive tailored for fleet operations. Commercial members can receive up to $1,500 in reimbursement for the installed cost of EV chargers, with a limit of two reimbursements per metered location. To qualify, members must share their plans for electric vehicle ownership or lease, paving the way for cleaner and more efficient fleet operations.

This incentive extends to rental car companies, making it a valuable resource for operators at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. By extending the program to the airport, Chugach supports the growth of sustainable transportation solutions in one of Alaska’s key transportation hubs.

Chugach’s Charge Towards a Greener Alaska

Chugach Electric Association’s series of EV charging incentives are a testament to the organization’s commitment to shaping a more sustainable and eco-friendly Alaska. These programs not only encourage the adoption of electric vehicles but also foster partnerships between Chugach and its commercial members, positioning Alaska as a leader in clean transportation solutions.
