The City of Redding, California, is driving the charge towards a greener future with its Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Program. This initiative is designed to support local businesses in installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Whether you’re a small business or a large corporation, this program offers valuable resources and incentives to help you contribute to sustainability while attracting eco-conscious customers.

Site Assessment Assistance

Planning your EV charging station installation can be a breeze with the City of Redding’s Electric Department by your side. Their engineering staff is ready to provide expert guidance. They can assist you by reviewing your preliminary plans, conducting site assessments, answering your questions, and making recommendations to ensure your EV charging project is a success.

Steps for Expedited EV Charging Installation

Submit EV Charging Project Information Form: Before you can apply for an expedited permit through the Building Department, your Commercial EV Charging project must be reviewed and approved by REU. All Commercial EV Charging projects must have an approved REU EV Charging Project Information Form.

  • Electric Department Plan Review: Depending on the scale of your charger installation, an REU Distribution Planner may conduct a circuit study for your project. If required, you’ll be notified of the study’s results upon project approval or denial. If approved, you’ll receive your signed Project Information Form and project plans via email.
Once you have the approved Project Information Form, you can submit your building permit application to the City of Redding Building Department to initiate the expedited permit process. If your project is denied by REU, you’ll receive an explanation for the denial.
If your project qualifies, REU will provide information on available incentives, project requirements, and the application process.

Submit Building Department Permit Application: With the approved and signed REU Project Information Sheet, you can provide the Required Documents

After your project is installed, you can apply for incentives if your project meets eligibility requirements. The City of Redding offers attractive incentives to support your EV charging project:

  • DC Fast Charger Rebate: Recognizing the need for more fast-charging stations, the City’s Electric Department provides up to $6,000 towards the installation of qualifying DC Fast Charging stations (up to 4 per customer). These stations must be separately metered, and LCFS Credits must be assigned to REU. Eligibility requirements apply.
  • DC Fast Charger Demand Credit: Operating DC Fast Charging stations can be expensive, especially in the early years when usage is relatively low. To alleviate the financial burden of high demand fees, the City’s Electric Department offers a credit on commercial utility bills for qualified DC Fast Charger installations. This credit ensures a flat rate of $0.30/kWh in the first year of operation. Eligibility requirements apply, and the credit can be extended for up to five years.

Please note that incentives are funded through Greenhouse Gas and Low Carbon Fuel Standard Revenues, and their availability is subject to funding constraints and REU’s discretion.

The City of Redding’s Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Program is your gateway to becoming part of the EV revolution. By installing EV chargers at your business, you can attract eco-conscious customers while contributing to a sustainable future. With expert guidance, expedited permitting, and attractive incentives, Redding is paving the way for businesses to electrify their services.

Don’t miss this opportunity to empower your business and join the movement towards a greener, cleaner tomorrow.
