Company Overview
Wattif is a Norway-based EV charging operator founded in 2021, with a bold mission: people should charge where they park, not park to charge. The company rapidly grew from a single-market player into a pan-European presence, now active in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Ireland, and the UK.
From the outset, Wattif’s strategy was unique. It funded infrastructure investments directly, simplifying rollout for site owners and capturing long-term value through usage-based revenue-sharing models. The company rapidly built a strong portfolio across destination, residential, and fleet segments, unlocking access to over one million parking spaces.
In just three years, Wattif has evolved from a destination-charging disruptor into a multi-segment powerhouse. In 2023, the company secured a €50 million investment from infrastructure fund Marguerite and later acquired BilLader AS, EFUEL, and Charge365 from Zaptec ASA—adding over 28,000 chargers to its network. This momentum continued into 2024 with the acquisition of fleet-focused CPO Laddel and Mer (Statkraft owned) Norway’s housing cooperative portfolio, pushing Wattif’s footprint to over 45,000 managed charging points across six countries.
In 2025, Wattif launched new partnerships—including with Rexel to expand charging access in Sweden. Under the new leadership of CEO Andreas Strand, Wattif is focused on profitability, operational efficiency, and scaling its residential, fleet, and destination charging offerings.

Challenges and opportunities
Wattif’s rapid expansion brought operational and technical complexity. The company needed to launch across six highly diverse markets, each with unique regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and infrastructure needs.
The company needed to remain hardware-agnostic while ensuring full OCPP compliance. It had to support localized mobile apps and customer portals, enable diverse payment solutions—including integrations with Nets and Altapay—and support roaming through Hubject and peer-to-peer OCPI. Even more importantly, Wattif needed to migrate charge points and users from acquired networks—without service disruptions.
Wattif carefully evaluated whether to build a CPMS in-house or partner with an established platform. CTO Øystein Tomassen, with deep experience across telecom and fintech, quickly recognized the risk of reinventing the wheel. “We realized building in-house would require 50+ developers just to match what AMPECO already had. We’re not here to become a software company. We’re here to operate and scale.”
At the same time, Wattif saw an opportunity to lead the market by consolidating fragmented networks and delivering a consistent, high-quality experience across regions. By investing in a unified, scalable platform, the company aimed to strengthen its position as a trusted partner to site owners, property managers, and fleet operators throughout Europe.
The Solution: A platform that scales with vision
After a thorough technical and commercial evaluation of multiple providers, Wattif selected AMPECO for its scalable architecture, comprehensive feature set, and standout collaboration—laying the foundation for a long-term partnership that would support their pan-European growth strategy.
AMPECO’s scalable platform gave them the ability to tailor experiences for each market without duplicating efforts—an essential capability as Wattif evolved its offerings from public destination charging into residential and fleet verticals. As Stian Johansen, Operations Lead at Wattif puts it, “Our needs are not one-size-fits-all. What works for Norway isn’t necessarily what works in the UK or Sweden. AMPECO’s modularity lets us adapt for each market without rebuilding the entire system.” Key solution components include:
Flexible tariff modules
Wattif leverages AMPECO’s tariff module to meet the needs of a variety of B2B clients like municipalities, housing cooperatives, and fleet operators—across various business models.
Advanced energy management
AMPECO also delivered advanced energy management capabilities critical to Wattif’s growth strategy. Features such as Dynamic Load Management (DLM), integration with Nord Pool for dynamic electricity pricing, and support for OCPP 2.0.1—including V2G and other smart charging capabilities—enable Wattif to optimize grid use and future-proof its network. Integration with smart meters like Phoenix EMpro and Shelly further enhances visibility and control across installations.
Participation in flexibility markets
In Norway, pilot projects use AMPECO’s Flexibility Assets and Dynamic Load Management (DLM) functionalities to shift charging loads in response to grid signals. By partnering with flexibility market operators like Nodes, Wattif can aggregate and dispatch controllable capacity to grid operators, unlocking new revenue streams while supporting grid stability and the transition to renewable energy.
Empowering custom development
Wattif used AMPECO’s robust APIs to build supporting tools that extend its service offering. These include a custom web portal for ad-hoc payments and charge point discovery, as well as custom-built real-time data analytics, improving operation and maintenance performance through predictive and proactive maintenance scheduling. Enhancing a better end-user experience, reduced downtime, increased reliability and improved safety.
Compliance & financial integration
Equally transformative was AMPECO’s support in establishing complex payment flows, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting. Wattif integrated with its ERP system, Xledger, to fulfill Norwegian income transaction regulations, and developed custom settlement processes for housing associations using AMPECO’s robust data architecture.
Enabling partner support & AI-Driven Service
Wattif extends AMPECO’s platform to Atender, its external customer service partner, enabling them to resolve a significant share of support tickets directly within the system. By defining custom access roles and providing targeted training, Wattif maximizes partner autonomy while retaining full operational control. Looking ahead, Wattif will continue to integrate AI-powered capabilities to further enhance first-line customer support, streamline responses, and deliver an even more seamless user experience.
Multi-operator architecture
AMPECO enabled Wattif to create one tenant for its operations in Norway, Sweden, Germany, the UK, Ireland and Austria, with appropriate user base and data distribution between them.
Roaming
AMPECO established a roaming connection with Hubject, one of Europe’s largest roaming hubs. Roaming was also enabled between all charge points in Wattif’s multi-county network, and direct OCPI connections were built with key industry stakeholders like Easy Park.
Migration support
Through this partnership, Wattif successfully migrated portfolios from multiple acquisitions, 7 in total, including a seamless migration of 4,600 users and 200 chargers from EFUEL in just a few weeks and +30,000 charge points from Charge365 and 2 more portfolios in just 3 months – with zero downtime. AMPECO’s expert integration teams not only validated hardware compatibility across a wide range of charger models but also went the extra mile to ensure that advanced features like Dynamic Load Management (DLM) would work seamlessly with over 30 different AC and DC charger types. This rigorous testing and customization streamlined deployment, reduced operational risk, and enabled Wattif to deliver consistent, grid-friendly charging experiences across its entire network.
Operational enablement
A key strength of the AMPECO platform lies in its ability to support every stakeholder inside a growing CPO like Wattif. At the executive level, AMPECO provides centralized visibility into KPIs, profitability, and rollout progress – enabling data-driven decisions that guide strategy, prioritization, and market expansion. Meanwhile, operations teams rely on real-time diagnostics, detailed OCPP and OCPI logs, and integrations with tools like Zendesk and SiteTracker to maintain charger health and respond quickly to support requests.cing.
“Internally, AMPECO has proven to be the preferred partner for Wattif. We evaluated eight different CPMS platforms across our acquisitions, and AMPECO is the one we chose to consolidate on.”
Andreas Strand, CEO
